Wowow off to visit my uncle James in New York! Real life New York!
Packing up my bag in the morning Not sure what to expect. I certainly didn't need to have taken that woolly jumper!
There's my flight! Squashed between Florence and Dubai.
Passport and boarding pass at the ready.
I had a very fancy plane on the way over. Maybe the best ever!
Sneaky picture before it's phones off time.
This is where James lives! Less than a block from Central Park on the west side - so surreal!
Looking down James' street towards Central Park.
I decided to go for a wee morning stroll in the park. Just casually.
It's a stunning city.
The building with the double tower is called The Eldorado and it's just by where James lives!
Autumn is on its way.
This is the Cathedral of St John the Divine which is just such a beautiful church on the Upper West Side.
Next we went and saw Columbia University Which is also very near James' house!
.
Weeee Bogey!!
Not the Seinfeld one sadly. But still cool! We went here for breakfast one day, yummm.
So many shiny things in Tiffany's.
This is Federal Hall on Wall Street where George Washington was inaugurated!
The view of the New York Stock Exchange from Federal Hall
Trinity Church at Wall Street and Broadway
The Wall Street Bull
Bowling Green
We decided to go on the Staten Island Ferry as it's free and you get some wonderful views of the island and Statue of Liberty!
Lady Liberty herself.
Confident.
These were all on the inside of the sculpture below. It was built to commemorate those who lost their lives in 9/11.
And if you look straight down it, you see where the twin towers stood by where the Freedom Tower is now (the really tall one!).
Maybe you can make out the three bridges. The one in front is the Brooklyn Bridge, the next is Manhattan Bridge, then the Williamsburg Bridge far away down the river.
This is actually a Nelson restaurant for all those Nelson people out there!
But what is Nelson food, anyway? Tahuna beach sand-patty burger? Queen's Gardens grass juice? That-hand-with-the-snails-all-over-it-in-Stoke soup? Fifeshire-Rock-seagull Sunday roast? I can't even imagine what they were serving people.
Sadly, all jokes and speculations aside, this place got flooded by Hurricane Sandy and is now closed.
This is all painted on! So cool! In this part of town where the Nelson restaurant is has all been very damaged from the hurricane and most of the shops have been abandoned. It's really sad actually.
End of Day 1!
